The Distance Learning Community of Practice Steering Committee invites you to two live presentations. Mary Churchill (Educational Leadership) and Kristen Lindquist (Writing and Library Science) will talk about increasing student engagement in blended, virtual and online environments. Location: LIB 231.

Details:

  • Using Online Learning to Engage and Motivate in Blended and Virtual Environments, by Mary Churchill.
Interested in using online learning in your face-to-face classroom? Teaching an online class for the first time? While the available opportunities are endless, they can also be overwhelming. As teacher facilitators, we quickly understand that students do not always know how to learn in an online environment when using online tools for the first time, and that teaching an online class is much different than placing teaching materials online. Practical applications and practices will be explored to engage and motivate students and to enhance teacher facilitation. Primary focus will be placed upon instructional design strategies, building community, facilitation, and using engaging tools.
  • Embedded Prezi Audio - For Online Lectures and Online Student Presentations, by Kristen Lindquist.
Make sure you're reaching multiple students' learning types by using the embed audio feature in Prezi. All you need is a computer and a microphone! It's simple to record and embed. Prezi allows students to go through your online lecture at their own pace. This option can also be used for online student presentations. It's like your online student is presenting their topic in person to the whole class!
