BUILDINGS SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE
The Systems Maintenance Department maintains the University's buildings and fixed equipment. Systems Maintenance consists of several specialized units structured to meet unique needs.
THE ELECTRICAL SHOP
The Electrical Shop maintains many different electrical systems throughout campus including high voltage substation, clock systems, Belknap message sign, sidewalk and parking lot lighting, distribution and branch circuit wiring, lights and receptacles, fire alarm systems, manhole sump pump systems, three- and single-phase electrical motors of many uses and sizes, scoreboards, and building emergency generators. In addition to maintenance, the electrical shop handles light electrical construction; installation of telephone lines, computer cable, and terminations; and does preventative maintenance on electrical systems campus-wide. The Electrical Shop consists of an Electrician and a Maintenance Mechanic and receives assistance from other members of Facilities Management as needed. Any questions or problems dealing with the electrical systems at the University should be directed to Extension 8120.
THE MECHANICAL SHOP
The Mechanical Shop cares for the wide range of plumbing systems found in University buildings, including plumbing and fixtures; compressed air; natural gas and specialty gases; distilled, deionized, and reverse osmosis water; steam; and condensate lines. This shop also maintains and repairs all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment including chilled and hot water systems, cooling towers, centrifugal and steam absorption units, and mechanical refrigeration systems. THE LOCK SHOP
The locksmith shop installs and services all of the locks and door hardware in the UWS buildings. If you have requests for lock changes or questions/problems with any UWS lock or other door hardware, please call Ext. 8120. Campus keys are distributed from the Campus Welcome Center. If you have any question or requests for keys, please stop at the Campus Welcome Center or call Ext. 8177.
THE CARPENTER SHOP
The carpentry shop serves many of the building and remodeling needs of the campus. We build, install, and repair ceilings, walls, floors, windows, and doors. We custom build, assemble, install, and repair furniture, cabinetry, and fixtures. The carpentry shop is also responsible for university signs, interior and exterior. THE PAINT SHOP
The paint shop is responsible for painting the interior and exterior of academic and administrative buildings. We also paint most of the equipment used to maintain the campus. If you have any questions, please call Extension 8120.
