First Year Experience

FYE Courses

The First Year Experience program is committed to setting our new students up for success both academically and personally.  One of the ways in which we do this is through our courses.  We have two main types of courses for our incoming freshmen, First Year Seminars (FYS) and IDS 130: Introduction to the College Experience.

First Year Seminars are courses designed specifically for new freshmen.  They are capped at 15 participants which enables the students to connect with each other and with instructor.  Each course focuses on a different content area and will fulfill a General Education requirement.  Students in the seminar classes are engaged in discussions and coursework that help them increase their learning throughout their college career.

The IDS 130:Introduction to the College Experience course is also specifically for new freshmen and is also capped at 15 participants.  IDS 130 does not cover a General Education requirement, but does count towards total graduation credits.  Students in this course will learn skills and information to help them transition into college life and equip them with the tools necessary to be successfully complete their college career.  In addition they are able to connect with their Peer Mentor, who is an upperclassmen helps facilitate the course and serves as a resource for them throughout their time here.
