Looking to get involved in a leadership role? If so, First Year Experience may be perfect for you! We hire students for three different roles: Lead Students, Team Leaders, and Peer Mentors!

All positions require students be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA requirement which varies by position.

Lead Students

Lead Students will be assisting with organizing and coordinating the FYE programs such as SOAR, WoW, and others throughout the year. Lead Students also assist with selection and supervision of the Team Leaders as well as creating and facilitating training for both SOAR and WoW Team Leaders.

Lead Student positions are usually posted in the early spring with interviews and hiring done in March. This position runs for a full year starting in May. Lead Students will work 20-30 hours a week in the summer and 7-10 hours a week during the school year. Attendance at all SOAR and WoW sessions is required.

Team Leaders

Team Leaders serve as a resource for incoming students who participate with SOAR and WoW. Each Team Leader will have a small group which they will meet with during either SOAR or WoW to discuss any questions or concerns students may have about coming to college. They also facilitate activities with other Team Leaders to get the incoming students involved and comfortable here at UW-Superior.

SOAR Team Leader positions are posted in the early spring and hiring is done in March. Fall WoW positions are posted in the early spring as well and much of the hiring is done in March, but the position may stay open through summer until all positions are filled. Winter WoW Team Leader positions are posted in the fall and hiring is completed in early December. Attendance is required at all training sessions as well as any SOAR or WoW sessions, depending on which position(s) you are hired for.

Peer Mentors

At UW-Superior, our Peer Mentors are experienced upperclassmen who provide information, support, and encouragement to our new students.  Peer Mentor work with the First Year Seminar courses which are required of all students coming in with fewer than 21 credits. For more information about this position, please review the Fall 2013 Peer Mentor position description
