Peer Mentors - First Year Experience

First Year Experience

Peer Mentors

At UW-Superior, our Peer Mentors are experienced upperclassmen who provide information, support, and encouragement to our new students.  Peer Mentor work with the First Year Seminar courses which are required of all students coming in with fewer than 21 credits.  In addition, they hold office hours, which are open for any student to stop in.

See what some of our students have said about their Peer Mentor

"I have somebody who I can relate to and who can explain stuff to me in a way I understand."

"She has helped me learn to better manage my time and develop connections with other freshman students. As a result of the program I have a better understanding of the curriculum at UWS.  It's a greater experience than I have ever had before."

"My mentor made this semester a better experience!"

"She is someone who understands what I'm going through and is actually in one of my classes."

Peer Mentors can assist with:

  • Improving study skills
  • Learning to network with peers, faculty, and administration
  • Refer people to appropriate UWS and community services and resources
  • Improving communication skills
  • Deciding when/ how to communicate with professors
  • Strengthen time management skills
  • Strengthen academic skills in general, leading to student success

Hey everyone! My name is Autumn Gray and I'm a sophomore here at UWS. I'm currently studying Media Communications with two minors in Writing and Visual Arts. I'm from a small, countrifried town called Bloomer, WI. I also have two other jobs besides Peer Mentoring, but I still try and find time to hang out with my friends and do creative things. I hope you guys have a great year, and feel free to email me or ask me any questions you may have!

I'm a sophomore majoring in Sociology. I love meeting new people and having tons of fun! The best thing about UW-Superior is the small campus environment. I cannot wait to show you all the wonderful opportunities as well!
