Lavender Graduation

University of Wisconsin-Superior First Annual Lavender Graduation

Who is it for?

Any student, staff/faculty, or community member that identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex or ally. Supportive friends and family members are encouraged to attend!

Why?

To celebrate the achievements and contributions of students who identify as LGBTQIA on campus and in the wider community. Lavender Graduation is an event to which these students look forward, where they not only share their hopes and dreams with one another, but where they are officially recognized by the institution for their leadership and their successes and achievements.

How does it work?

Students and staff may nominate anyone who they feel has been an outstanding supporter and contributor to the LGBTQIA community. To nominate or register yourself for this event, email completed form(s) to crausche@uwsuper.edu.  Various awards will presented in addition to honoring the upcoming graduates.  Please be sure to let us know the number of guests that you will be inviting.

When?

The next graduation is TBD, but will be in the Yellow jacket Union Great Room. Lavender Graduation will include an honorary graduation ceremony and presentation of awards and short speakers, followed by refreshments and music and a time celebrate with our friends and family!

Why Lavender?

Lavender is important to LGBTQIA history. It is a combination of the pink triangle that gay men were forced to wear in concentration camps and the black triangle designating lesbians as political prisoners in Nazi Germany. The LGBTQIA civil rights movement took these symbols of hatred and combined them to make symbols and color of pride and community.

Please return this completed form(s) to the front desk of YU Suite 230 or crausche@uwsuper.edu

Lavender Graduation is presented by UW-Superior Gender Equity Program and Queer and Allied Student Union
