Transgender Rememberance Day

Join us on Wednesday, November 20 from 10:00am-2:00pm in the Swenson Hall Atrium to remember transgender people who have lost their lives so far this year.

Transgender Remembrance Day is a day to respect and remember those who lost their lives due to ignorance and hatred fueled by violence and bullying. As of May 2013 (according to gaystarnews.com), "New figures claim 78 trans people have already been killed in 13 countries this year and 1,233 in 59 countries since January 2008." People who are trans* are discriminated against at a rate that is double that of gay and lesbian individuals. Hate crimes are common and many of them are violent toward people who are transgender. Every November 20, we remember and recognize those who have been victims of hate murders.

Sponsored by Gender Equity, www.uwsuper.edu/genderequity. For more information contact Debbie at genderequity@uwsuper.edu or call 715-394-8091.
