Assistant Professor, Media Studies (Department of Communicating Arts)

POSITION:

Assistant Professor of Media Studies, tenure-track

DUTIES:

The Department of Communicating ARts at the University of Wisconsin-Superior seeks a Media Studies genearlist to teach its Introduction to Communication general education course and Media and Society foundation course, as well as a variety of classes in media theory and criticism at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Duties also include academic advising, senior capstone supervision, graduate thesis committee work, curriculum development, department and unviersity service, and productive scholarship in Media Studies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Ph.D. in Media Studies by June 1, 2014
  • University-level teaching experience
  • Interest in developing and teaching on-line curriculum
  • A record of scholarly activity in Media Studies
  • Commitment to inclusive excellence in teaching and learning

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Demonstrated record of teaching excellence
  • Experience teaching on-line and/or using learning management systems or platforms

The successful candidate will be dynamic, energetic, creative, and engaging. The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to the public liberal arts mission and to quality teaching and learning methods. Willingness and interest in utilizing technology in the classroom strongly preferred. the successful candidate must be committed to the highest ethical standards and demonstrate effective leadership and teamwork skills.

SALARY:

The Media Program is one of three areas in the Communicating Arts Department (Communication, Media, Theatre) offering both undergraduate and graduate (M.A.) degrees. Media is divided into four distinct tracks for undergraduate students. Media Studies, Journalism, Digital Cinema, and Interactive Media, in addition to providing Media minors on-line and on-campus.
