Technology Funding Programs Results 2008-2009

Requests for 2008-2009 technology funding from the Classroom/Lab Modernization or the Student Technology Fee programs were submitted by November, 2008. Funding requests far exceeded the available funding ($970,108 in requests for $316,486). Because requests included network and technology needs for the Library renovation and new student center building projects, final award decisions were delayed pending allocation from other sources for these campus technology needs. The building project budgets were able to provide $228,390 in funding for the new networks due to the competitive bidding environment. Funding was also identified for the audio/visual projection in the new Library classroom - $27,000 from a UW System 2007-2009 DIN. This UW System also funded coming upgrades to OM 322 and ERL 205 (request made here for $9,500 for new seating). The remaining 2008-2009 requests totaled $704,218. Allocation decisions focused on operational costs and equipment replacements for general access labs and advanced technology classrooms and requests that served campus-wide needs. Only a couple of departmental requests were able to receive funding from this program - although many worthy requests were submitted.

Background on Funding Programs

UW-System allocates some designated funding for technology on UW campuses annually. There are two funds, both based on student FTE. The Student Technology Fee (STF) fund is a percentage of tuition revenue. The Classroom/Laboratory Modernization and General Computer Access (CLM) fund is fixed allocation from UW Systems budget. UW-Superior traditionally convenes sub-committees of the University Technology Committee to allocate these funds on campus. Both committees are convened by the Chief Information Officer.
