Campus community honors veterans

Members of the UW-Superior campus community sing The Star-Spangled Banner as the American flag is raised during a Veterans Day ceremony held on campus.
Members of the UW-Superior campus community gathered at the campus flagpole Thursday for a ceremony to honor veterans on Veterans Day 2010.
Those gathered sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" as the American flag was raised and then heard brief welcoming remarks from Interim Chancellor Christopher Markwood, who thanked the veterans attending for their service.
Students and veterans Mark Brookmole, retired Coast Guard chief boatswain's mate, and Aimee Bandelin, former Army sergeant, spoke about the meaning of Veterans Day and military service
Lucas Ruffi, former Army specialist and president of the UW-Superior Veterans Club, concluded the ceremony by leading those attending in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Following the ceremony, Markwood presented student veterans with tokens of appreciation.
