Campus welcomes its largest influx of new faculty

Posted on Aug 24, 2010

Along with a strong enrollment of new students this fall, the University of Wisconsin-Superior is welcoming its largest number of new faculty and instructional staff in recent history.

This month 17 educators and researchers join the faculty at UW-Superior. The influx of new talent is the largest in decades and the most diverse.

Some of the new faculty members are replacing retiring professors but the large number of hires mainly reflects an effort by the university to expand its faculty.

"We're restoring faculty ranks lost to previous budget cuts," said Interim Chancellor Christopher Markwood. "We value our faculty-student interaction, and we need faculty who are full time and progressing in their careers here. And anytime you bring new people with new ideas to campus it's a good way to continue growth and change."

Dr. Faith Hensrud, interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, said new faculty are always welcome on campus.

"Some of these faculty members are new to our campus but have experience at other institutions, so bringing those ideas and experiences to our campus is a benefit to our students and our faculty."
