UW-Superior names Faith Hensrud as Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

Posted on Apr 25, 2012

Dr. Faith Hensrud, a long-time faculty member and academic leader at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, has been named the university's Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

"Dr. Hensrud has a record of great accomplishment, not only at UW-Superior but also in business and in the military. She has been an outstanding leader, working with great professionalism to deal with a number of issues, performing admirably in her two years of service in the role of interim provost," said Chancellor Renée Wachter. "We are looking forward to her continuing contributions to the advancement of our university. It is clear that she has already earned a high level of respect from campus and external constituencies."

As Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Hensrud serves as the university's chief academic officer. She will manage an academic affairs budget of $13 million and provide oversight for 12 academic departments, 130 faculty members, and three research centers. She has held the position on an interim basis since 2010.

Hensrud earned her doctor of education degree in educational policy and administration from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis in 2001. She holds a master of arts degree in management from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth and a bachelor of science degree from UW- Green Bay.

At UW-Green Bay she completed the Army ROTC program and was commissioned a second lieutenant upon graduating. She served in the U.S. Army from 1986 to 1989 and continued serving in the Army Reserve until 2000.

Hensrud worked as a senior service team leader for Schneider National Carriers before becoming a lecturer in UW-Superior's Department of Business and Economics in 1995.

Since joining the campus community, she has served as director of UW-Superior's Distance Learning Center and its Center for Continuing Education/Extension. She spent several years as Associate vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Outreach.

UW-Superior engages students for lifelong learning and rewarding careers through more than 26 undergraduate and graduate programs offered on campus along with degrees offered through distance learning. The university is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges and plays a central role in the University of Wisconsin System's Growth Agenda for Wisconsin.
