The tables were turned at UW-Superior on Wednesday as the faculty and staff went to class in order to improve student experiences and prepare for the upcoming semester.
Faculty and Staff Enhancement Day was held throughout the day at various locations and the theme was Celebrating Scholarship and Exploring URSCA: Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Jenny Shanahan the director of Undergraduate Research at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts, and she touched on how the entire campus can get involved in the celebration of scholarship. Her presentation offered strategies for engaging mentors on campus and students from every discipline in undergraduate research opportunities.
Breakout sessions were held throughout the day at various locations on campus. At noon, Mary Balcer, Eleni Pinnow, Deborah Augsburger, Erika Washburn and Brent Notbohm all explained their process of connecting scholarship and student learning.
The day was sponsored by the Provost's Office, the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, and the Center for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities (URSCA). Enhancement Day is designed in support of the UW-Superior Institutional Change Grant (UW System Growth Agenda) related to URSCA (2013-2014).
