Donations matched up to $60,000 during UW-Superior Foundation’s Superior Day of Giving

During the online fundraising event Superior Day of Giving on Tuesday, April 9, Superior Fund donations to the UW-Superior Foundation will be matched thanks to a returning $60,000 challenge gift. In its tenth consecutive year, Superior Day of Giving is the foundation’s largest fundraising event, raising nearly $1 million dollars. Last year the event raised more than $147,000.

Donations support student scholarships, emergency funding, undergraduate research, and academic programming. The Superior Fund is a top fundraising priority and enables the foundation to provide needed support to the university.

For the third consecutive year, Ron Boortz ’72 and his wife, Darla June (Anderson) Boortz, are generously offering a match for the 10th annual Superior Day of Giving. All contributions to the Superior Fund will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $50,000. The Superior Fund provides vital support for student scholarships, emergency funding, research, and more.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back to the university that holds such a special place in my heart,” said Boortz. “Supporting Superior Day of Giving with this match is my way of encouraging others to invest in this exceptional institution.”

Harold (Hal) Mattson ’68 has generously stepped forward to offer a matching gift challenge for Superior Day of Giving. All donations made to the Superior Fund will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000.

“My success in life, powered by my UWS education, along with that of several family members, has allowed me the honor of being able to provide a matching gift challenge for the Superior Day of Giving,” said Mattson. “My aim is to give other students the same opportunity I had – to graduate from the small but mighty Anchor of the North.”

In addition, the day will feature two special donation times.

From 6 to 9 a.m., Mattson’s match will begin, enabling a $5 gift to the Superior Fund to be tripled to $15.

The Happy Hour Challenge will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. where the matches also will be stacked – until matching gift points have been reached.

Individuals can now make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and Venmo. Most gifts received on Superior Day of Giving are made online but can also be made by mail to the UW-Superior Foundation. Every gift of any amount made to the foundation on April 9 will support the Day of Giving.

The foundation has also continued its partnership with UW-Superior Yellowjacket Athletics, who will be hosting its fifth live telethon to support fundraising efforts of the Champions Club. Gifts made to the Champions Club benefit student-athletes in UW-Superior’s NCAA Division III athletic programs. In its first four years, the telethon has raised more than $220,000.
