UW-Superior Transportation and Logistics Department again partnered with Michigan Tech University to sponsor a Youth Rail and Intermodal Transportation summer camp in and around the Twin Ports for high school students.

The students were able to tour and experience first-hand learning opportunities at several local businesses in Superior such as BNSF and Halvor Lines.

On day two in the Twin Ports, they were able to tour CN Taconite Dock and the Duluth Railroad Museum and take a train ride to Lester River and back. Another highlight was playing in the Marcovich Wellness Center and staying in the UW-Superior residence halls.

UW-Superior faculty, staff and transportation and logistics students assisted with the Twin Ports portion of the camp. Dr. Amit Mokashi was the UW-Superior camp advisor and the UW-Superior student assistants were Natalie Burger and Erica Hansen.

During their on-site visits they were able to connect and talk with industry leaders and insiders on how to pursue and develop a career in that particular field.

The camp started and ended at Michigan Tech University in Houghton, Michigan and also included several stops in Houghton and Marquette that highlighted career opportunities in the transportation and logistics industry. The students also learned about educational opportunities that each school offers in transportation and logistics.
