Jim and Sue Swenson have made quite an impression on UW-Superior over the years by providing money for scores of student scholarships and supporting key campus building projects.

On Tuesday, July 13, they left another impression on campus -- this time in their namesake Swenson Hall being constructed on the northwest corner of campus. Jim and Sue Swenson, along with several members of their family, pressed their hands into a block of wet concrete specially prepared by the building's contractor. When dry, the block will be incorporated into the interior of Swenson Hall to serve as a permanent reminder of their generosity to future generations of students and faculty.

Jim and Sue Swenson made a generous $5 million gift to UW-Superior that enabled the university to win state support to build the $32 million state-of-the-art academic building. When open for classes in Fall 2011, Swenson Hall will house 21 classrooms, a lecture hall, faculty offices, and offices for student services. The environmentally friendly building will be built to LEED Silver Certification standards for environmental sustainability.
