UW-Superior Career Services partnered with the Career Services departments from the College of St. Scholastica and University of Minnesota Duluth to offer Connect With Campus: Internships, a free workshop that was held on Thursday, June 26, at UW-Superior Yellowjacket Union.
UW-Superior Director of Career Services Kathy Pykkonen introduced Jessie Pondell, director of Student Professional Development for the UW Oshkosh College of Business, who was the keynote speaker for the workshop.
The workshop was designed to help community employers successfully navigate the people, departments, and terminology within higher education institutions as they seek to connect with students interested in internships.
Representatives from UW-Superior, the College of St. Scholastica, and UMD were on hand to answer questions from organizations, provide feedback, and share best practices.
The workshop included the use of four strategic steps to create and maintain a strong internship program at area organizations and businesses. Discussion on topics such as intern compensation, elements of successful programs, and marketing and evaluation tools also took place. Those that attended from organizations in Superior, Duluth and the surrounding area heard from students who answered questions, provided feedback and shared best practices for hosting an intern.
The employer panel included representatives from Swim Creative, Duluth Pack, Allete-Minnesota Power and UMD Athletics. The student panel consisted of students from UW-Superior, CSS and UMD.
The workshop was sponsored by Head of the Lakes Career and Internship Services.
