UW-Superior earns undergraduate research grant

UW-Superior Center for Undergraduate Research has been awarded a grant from UW System to fund the development of undergraduate research. This year the university will receive a grant for $95,800. Funding for the two subsequent years is expected for a total award of $266,700. Each year UW System requests applications for Growth Agenda Grants, and this year they received 40 proposals.

Provost Dr. Faith Hensrud was proud of those who made it happen. "Thanks and congratulations to to those that made this happen and for your work and contributions to this grant proposal. This grant is the result of exceptional work of everyone involved."

  • Shon Schooler (Lake Superior NERR)
  • Rhoda Robinson (Associate Dean)
  • Suzanne Griffith (Interim Associate Dean)
  • Kaelene Arvidson-Hicks (Grants and Research Administrator)
  • Kristin Riker-Coleman (Co-chair, URSCA)
  • Maria Cuzzo (CETL Director)
  • Ralph Seelke and members of Natural Sciences
  • Jeff Kahler (Budget Analyst)

The grant provides UW-Superior with the funds to hire a Director of Undergraduate Research by Fall 2013. The primary role of this position is to bring overall coordination and enhancement to Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity as a core piece of the liberal arts experience at UW-Superior.

Dr. Hensrud added, "UW-Superior's strong history of undergraduate research through our academic departments, and our research centers and institutes helped to make our proposal competitive. The grant builds upon that foundational work as well as the success of the Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities (URSCA) Committee over the past two years, and leads us to the next steps identified by URSCA for our campus."
