Meeting with your Academic Advisor

An academic advisor is assigned to every student based on his or her major. The Office of International Programs will send you information about your advisor.  Students should make an appointment to meet with their academic advisor during the week before the semester starts. Sample e-mail

Advisors' basic responsibilities include helping students set academic goals, understand degree requirements, select courses, and determine career expectations.

Remember - your academic advisor is there to help you!

We strongly encourage you to develop a good relationship with your advisor - they also care about your progress and can help you in many ways, for example:

  • They'll advise you about which classes to take.

  • They'll help make sure you're making good progress towards graduation.

  • They'll talk about any problems or questions you might have about your current studies.

  • They'll talk about any problems or questions you might have about your future plans.

  • They'll discuss internship opportunities as well as academic and career options.

  • They'll assist you if you wish to change your major.
