Office of Multicultural Affairs

Cynthia Bilges and Ron Robinson (01/22/2013)

The Office of Multicultural Affairs wants you to meet:

Returning Students:

Cynthia M. Bilges (goes by Syndy)

Cynthia
Hometown: I spent my high school years in Remer, MN but considers Grand Rapids to be more like home.
Year: Super Senior.

Major/Minor(s): I am majoring in Social Work and have taken the opportunity to get one minor in Early Childhood Education and the second in First Nation Studies.

What drew you to UWS? I came to UWS because of the Social Work program that is offered (others had recommended it) and that the class sizes were small - the students are NOT just a number on the UWS campus.

What student organizations/extracurricular activities are you a part of and/or planning to be a part of? I am the President of the Circle of Native Nations, a mentor for the Office of Multicultural Affairs Peer Mentoring Program, and am involved in the Social Work Student Association/SAC. I also participate in off campus activities within in the community of Duluth, such as I am going to be doing my second year of basketball coaching for the Salvation Army Rookie basketball league.

What are you looking forward to most during this upcoming year? I am looking forward to meeting new people on campus and being involved as much as I can.

In one sentence, what is your advice to your peers about succeeding in college? Don't procrastinate if at all possible. Assignments are due faster than one may think. If you don't understand something and need help - GET IT, no one will know if you are struggling unless you talk to either your peers or instructors. At this point in our lives we are all responsible for what happens to us.

One "Fun Fact" about you: I like to just sit back and people watch, and I do it a lot. : )

Returning Students:

                             Ron Robinson
ron robinson

What student organizations/extracurricular activities are you a part of and/or planning to be a part of? Track and Field.

What are you looking forward to most during this upcoming year? Track Season. Watching basketball games and volleyball games.

In one sentence, what is your advice to your peers about succeeding in college? Keep your priorities straight. Keep your eyes on the prize.

One "Fun Fact" about you: I like writing, it's my passion. Poetry, short stories.. stuff like that.

Would you like to be in the "Student Spotlight"?

The Office of Multicultural Affairs is incredibly excited to announce our new "Student Spotlight" program. We will spotlight both new and/or returning UW-Superior students each week throughout the academic year. We will spotlight these students on our office website, Facebook page, and student/staff digests.

UW-Superior students are the reason we are here and we truly want students to be successful. The Student Spotlight will help students to connect to various faculty, staff, students, and programs on this campus and vice versa. Having these connections will help students become successful.
