Jessica Cheslock

Hometown: Grand Rapids, MN

What drew you to UW-Superior?: My wife.

What student organizations/extracurricular activities are you planning to be a part of?: The LGBTQ Alliance student organization and the Multicultural Center.

What are you looking forward to most during this upcoming year?: The events coming up and the fact that I get to continue my education.

Returning Student:

Yoel Yohannes

Yoel Weldemariam Yohannes

Hometown: Asmara, Eritrea / Saint Paul, Minnesota

Year: 3rd (Sophomore/Junior)

Major/Minor: Communication Arts - Speech

What drew you to UW-Superior?: A strange and lucky roll of the dice that landed in my extreme favor. It involved taking chances, hoping for the best, and accepting the results. I will never regret taking that chance, and am overjoyed in its outcome. I randomly entered a college search engine online and committed to applying to the first one that popped up. I applied to UW-S!

What student organizations/extracurricular activities are you a part of and/or planning to be a part of?:

•    President of the Black Student Union

•    Floor Representative for the Residence Hall Association

•    Jazz Street Director for KUWS 91.3

•    Mentor through the Office of Multicultural Affairs

•    CRU member

•    Yellowjacket Activities Crew

•    Ostrander Gentlemen's Guild

•    Theatre Department

•    World Student Association (Cultural Night 2013)

What are you looking forward to most during this upcoming year?: Good grades, good friends, good times, resume building, and hopefully, more time to sleep!

In one sentence, what is your advice to your peers about succeeding in college?: While there is nothing wrong with staying active on campus, focus on studies and be as tolerant as possible.

One "Fun Fact" about you?: I love playing pool, dogs, and watching movies (I bet I can name the Best Picture winner of the year you were born!).

Would you like to be in the "Student Spotlight"?

The Office of Multicultural Affairs is incredibly excited to announce the "Student Spotlight" program. We will spotlight both new and/or returning UW-Superior students each week throughout the academic year. We will spotlight these students on our office website, Facebook page, and student/staff digests.

UW-Superior students are the reason we are here and we truly want students to be successful. The Student Spotlight will help students to connect to various faculty, staff, students, and programs on this campus and vice-versa. Having these connections will help students become successful.
