Office of Multicultural Affairs

Shahzaib Bajwa and Tammy Kolesar (09-30-13)

The Office of Multicultural Affairs wants you to meet:

New Student:

Shahzaib Bajwa

Shahzaib Bajwa

Hometown: Lahore, Pakistan

Year: New Exchange Student here for one semester

Major/Minor: Anthropology and Sociology Double Majors

What drew you to UW-Superior?: I am here on an exchange program run by the US State Department and it sent me here to UW-Superior. I actually got to know a week before coming to the U.S. that I will be attending UW-Superior. I am really glad to be here though. I love how the professors give individual attention to the students.

What student organizations/extracurricular activities are you planning to be a part of?: Anthropology Club and I really want to be involved in all the events of the Adventure Club as well.

What are you looking forward to most during this upcoming year?: My classes and lots of learning and building lifelong connections in the limited time I have here with the UW-Superior community.

One "Fun Fact" about you: I lived in a Buddhist temple for two months in Sri Lanka last year and taught children. If you want to know more about my experience, come say "Hi."

Returning Student:

Tammy Kolesar

Tammy Kolesar

Hometown: Ashland Wisconsin

Year: Junior

Major/Minor: Communications

What drew you to UW-Superior?: I started here as a freshmen in 1986 and returned as a Distance Learning Student in the fall of 2012, and feel like I have completed one life and am finally ready to finish a previous one. My life has taken many strange turns, some I had planned and some happened to me, but I feel now is my time to be who I was meant to be.

What student organizations/extracurricular activities are you a part of and/or planning to be a part of?: None really, I am off-campus and own/operate my own business, so my spare time is limited.

What are you looking forward to most during this upcoming year?: Seeing if I can pull this off successfully.

In one sentence, what is your advice to your peers about succeeding in college?: Find the time to study and make the time count.

What is one "Fun Fact" about you?: I have 2 daughters in college, one a Junior at UW-Madison and the other a Freshmen at UW-Superior. If our college plans all work the way we think they should, we could all graduate the same Spring. Imagine a Triple College Graduation!

Would you like to be in the "Student Spotlight"?

The Office of Multicultural Affairs is incredibly excited to announce the "Student Spotlight" program. We will spotlight both new and/or returning UW-Superior students each week throughout the academic year. We will spotlight these students on our office website, Facebook page, and student/staff digests.

UW-Superior students are the reason we are here and we truly want students to be successful. The Student Spotlight will help students to connect to various faculty, staff, students, and programs on this campus and vice-versa. Having these connections will help students become successful.
