All UW-Superior parking areas are identified by signs posted at their entrances.  These signs state any special restrictions and other appropriate information.  Other special information signs are posted inside the parking areas to identify any special reserved spaces or other areas of note.

All persons parking on campus are expected to be familiar with and abide by all UW-Superior parking regulations while using any campus parking areas.  Non-familiarization with these regulations will not serve as a defense for violations.

UW-Superior Parking Regulations

It is the responsibility of the motor vehicle operator to be aware of UW-Superior parking regulations and to find a legal parking space.  The lack of a legal convenient space is not considered a valid excuse for parking illegally.

1. All vehicles parked in UW-Superior parking lots/areas (unless parked at a meter) must display a valid parking permit for that lot/area. (See Types of Permits above.)

2. Parking in a no parking zone, loading zone, fire lane or in a manner which obstructs traffic is strictly prohibited.  The use of vehicle hazard lights will not be justification for illegal parking.

3. Vehicles must be parked within marked stall markings. The fact that other vehicles are parked illegally in the same area will not be accepted as an excuse for illegal parking.

4. All vehicles parked at parking meters must pay the required meter fees during enforced times.

5. Parking permits are not valid until they are properly displayed.  Hung, clearly visible, from the inside rearview mirror.

6. Parking anytime between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. is prohibited in lots that are posted as no overnight parking.  If a vehicle breaks down, severe weather conditions exist, or a personal emergency prevents you from moving your car, contact the Parking Office at 394-8177 during regular business hours or the Campus Safety Office after hours at 394-8114.

7. The university assumes no liability for loss or damage to any vehicle or contents thereof, while parked in any university lot/area.

9. Vehicles parked in any lot from November 1 to May 1 must be moved to a different space every 48 hours so as not to impede snow plowing and removal, unless prior approval is granted from the Parking Services Office.

10. If an individual's vehicle becomes disabled on campus, the Parking Services Office at 394-8177 or Campus Safety at 394-8114 must be notified immediately.

Enforcement

University Parking Services personnel and Campus Safety personnel regularly and randomly patrol the campus to enforce UW-Superior parking regulations. Authority for these regulations and for the issuance of parking citations is derived from University of Wisconsin System Chapter 18.05 of the Wisconsin Administrative Code.

The Department of Transportation may refuse renewal of vehicle registration or suspend vehicle registration if citations are not paid or appealed promptly.  Additional fees are assessed for all unpaid citations that are referred to the Department of Transportation or are left unpaid after a reasonable amount of time.

Towing

The university reserves the right to remove motor vehicles at the owner's expense for any of, but not limited to the following:

1. Vehicles incurring three or more unpaid parking violations.

2. Vehicles parked in reserved spaces/areas without the proper permit.

3. Vehicles parked in disabled spaces without the proper permits.

4. Vehicles parked in no parking areas that are impeding traffic or pedestrians.

5. Vehicles that pose hazards such as leaking gas or impeding necessary maintenance such as snow removal or repaving.

6. Vehicles that are not displaying a current registration plate and have their vehicle identification number covered.

7. Vehicles that are displaying a permit that has been reported as lost, stolen or altered.

The university is not responsible for any claims as a result of the above-mentioned actions.
