What is an FAQ? (click to find out)
An FAQ is a list of frequently asked questions regarding a program (in this case). If you don't find the answers to your questions within the FAQ, please contact Christina Kline at ckline@uwsuper.edu
Who is eligible for Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)?
Anyone who can prove that learning outcomes have been achieved through prior experiences. In order to participate in Prior Learning Assessment at UW-Superior, you must enroll as a UW-Superior student and sign up to take a one credit, online course called IDS 298 Portfolio Development. This online course will guide you through the process of developing your portfolio for review by the faculty.
A portfolio is a compilation of materials that help you prove your case that you have achieved the learning outcomes required for a given course. It includes a resume, autobiography, credit request list, any and all transcripts, documentation of learning outcomes and any other documentation that may be applicable.
Once you have completed IDS 298 Portfolio Development, there is a flat $100.00 administrative fee plus a fee of $75.00 for every one to three credits requested.
How is prior learning assessed?
Once your portfolio is completed, it will be evaluated by the appropriate faculty at UW-Superior.
How many credits may I earn through PLA?
You may earn up to 30 credits through PLA, which is one quarter of your degree.
How much time do I have to complete my portfolio?
IDS 298 Portfolio Development is a semester long, online course. By the end of the semester, you will have a completed portfolio ready to be assessed by UW-Superior faculty.
How will my credit for prior learning be recorded on my transcript?
Once the faculty have assessed your portfolio and awarded you the appropriate credit, they will sign your petitions for credit through portfolio which will be submitted to our Registrars office. Then the credits will be applied to your transcript with no grade attached.
