Community Pedal (8/24/10)
by: Julia Johnson
It was overcast and breezy evening when Bruce, Sandy, and I set out from Lot 13 and headed through town to reach the Osaugie Trail. Sandy maintains some of the trail herself, so our journey was partly made possible by her hard work. Our path took us along the lake, where we briefly watched the Dragon Boat practice at the Barker's Island marina. There were plenty of critters around as we passed, a few rabbits, migrating Canada Geese, and plenty of song birds. Our trip was brought to a halt when we realized that my back tire was flat. A heroic Bruce came to the rescue with his hand pump, and the ride got back on track. We passed plenty of hikers, fellow bikers, and four-wheelers en route. We finally reached the road to Wisconsin Point and back into the wind to head back to town. All in all, it was an enjoyable ride.
Join SOAP for our next Community Pedal on Tuesday, September 7th, meeting in Lot 13. You will need to provide all of your own equipment as the SOAP program currently does not have bicycles or helmets for rent. As always we will be reviewing the rules of the road before we set out.
