W-Team Clinic an Overwhelming Success

Posted on Nov 2, 2009

Wilson Pro Racquetball Clinic

On Friday, October 23rd, Campus Recreation welcomed the Wilson Pro Racquetball Team on campus for a free clinic for the campus community. Below is a report from Brad Melster of the W Team.

"Our next stop was as far North as you can go in Wisconsin. I am pleased to report that the W Team clinic and demo at UW Superior was an overwhelming success. There were about 50 players in attendance with about 75% being students and the balance being local players who are allowed to use the campus recreation facility for a small fee.

The facility was excellent and the staff were very helpful. The students were absolutely thrilled to have us there as were the local players. The event even made the front page of the UW Superior website.

We arrived at 4 pm on Friday and did not leave until after 8 pm. All four courts were in use the entire time and we were able to play many of those who were there.

Steve Sensiba and Ken Adamec spent about half the time on court doing clinics. It was very encouraging to see the number interested in instructions and that about half of those students attending had little or no racquetball experience.

By the way, the courts were in excellent condition. The staff indicated that the courts are used fairly regularly. The beautiful facility that houses the courts was built around 2006 and is the home for all the indoor athletic and recreational activities of the students. Local racquetball players can come in and play for a small daily fee which they do on a regular basis.

A special thanks to W Team player and Superior resident, Francis Florey, for his efforts in making this event happen. Also a big thanks to Harry Anderson of UW Superior as well as his two staffers who helped us make this event such a success. (Jordan Appicelli and Jesse Schultz)"

With such overwhelming success, Campus Recreation will be hosting a racquetball tournament in February and leagues very soon. If you are interested in participating in a league or in forming a racquetball club on campus, please contact Jesse Schultz at jschul18@uwsuper.edu
