Campus Recreation employee Joe Mukite has been invited to officiate the 2011 NIRSA NCCS Regional Basketball Championships in St. Cloud, MN this weekend, February 18-20, 2011.

Joe has been employed by Campus Recreation for the past two years as an Intramural Official and most recently as an Intramural Supervisor. "It's been fun to watch Joe grow from an official to a supervisor over the past two years," says Harry Anderson, Coordinator of Intramural Programming. "To see Joe's ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate rules of the game to participants consistently improve every day, is credit to his hard work and illustrates why he is worthy of such a prestigious opportunity."

With only a limited number of officiating positions available, student Officials from across the Midwest were required to apply and only a select few were chosen. Selections were based on the officials knowledge of the sport, number of years officiating basketball, and experience officiating other sports.

"From my own experience, Intramurals has allowed me to take knowledge learned in the classroom and apply it in a professional setting," says Ryan Flaherty, Intramural Intern. "Experiences like Joe's will not only be an opportunity for him, but an opportunity for us to better our Intramural Program here at UW-Superior."

In addition, UW-Superior's Basketball Club will be competing in their first NIRSA Regional Tournament. "I'm excited and nervous at the same time," says Simon Rousset (Basketball Club Co-President). "It will be very challenging, but very fun."

Through our programs and facilities, Campus Recreation provides an array of recreation and wellness opportunities that foster active and healthy lifestyles.
