Get Started with COS Pivot
What is Pivot?
Pivot combines the best of the former Community of Science (COS) Funding Opportunities with the COS Scholar Universe using intelligent mapping features to advance matching your scholarly interests with funding opportunities and collaboration with other scholars.
How do I access Pivot?
Faculty and Staff at UW-Superior can access Pivot one of two ways:
1) IP Access
From any on-campus computer, a user can go right to http://pivot.cos.com. Because our institution's IP addresses will be recognized by Pivot, WU-Superior can start searching for funding or faculty profiles right away.
2) Username and Password
Faculty and staff can log in at http://pivot.cos.com with a Pivot username and password anytime, anywhere. Logging in this way will take the user to his or her Pivot homepage. From their homepage, they can manage active or tracked funding opportunities, saved searches, shared opportunities, etc., and start searching for funding or scholars. Username and password access is necessary when a) a user is off-campus, or b) when a user needs to save a funding record or funding search. UW-Superior faculty and staff who had a former cos.com username and password can use that information to access Pivot. All saved, searched, and tracked records are transferred to your new Pivot account.
Creating a new Pivot account is easy - UW-Superior users can go to http://pivot.cos.com and click the "Sign up" option in the upper right of the screen. The researcher/user will gain access to Pivot by indicating he or she is affiliated with our institution.
Pivot Profiles for UW-Superior Faculty and Staff
As a new Pivot subscriber, UW-Superior has been reviewed for our teaching and scholarly work as an institution of higher education. Pivot's Scholars Universe includes 157 faculty profiles from UW-Superior.
If users do not have a profile you can create one by clicking on the "Suggest a scholar" link on the Claim Profile page and follow the steps to create the beginnings of their profile. If you have a profile, follow the links to update their profile.

A training schedule for COS Pivot can be found at www.refworks-cos.com/training and clicking on COS Pivot (for user training). Recorded webinars are excellent and take around 30 minutes. They are readily accessed from COS Pivot by clicking on the Support tab. Click on the upcoming training and recorded webinars link(s) on the Support tab to view the various training sessions.
COS Pivot has also posted helpful videos on their YouTube Channel. New videos will be added periodically.
