The University Archives serves the historical needs of the University of Wisconsin-Superior, permanently maintaining historically significant campus records and providing access to those records. The University Archives includes records of the President/Chancellors; catalogs, bulletins, and class schedules from 1896 onwards; student newspapers (Peptomist 1920-1974, Promethian 1974-2006, and Stinger 2007-) and yearbooks (Gitche Gummi 1908-1972); records of shared governance; and numerous other series. At this time few University Archives collections are cataloged. Contact the archivist directly with questions.
Digitization funding was provided by the Student Differential Tuition for the Jim Dan Hill Library. The database is keyword searchable. Follow the Archives Resource Link. Works best using Internet Explorer.
Student newspapers include the Peptomist in 1920-1974. The paper was continued as the Promethean 1975-May 2006. The last year of the online file is represented by the first issues of the Stinger, 2006-2007.
The Yearbook, Gitche Gumee, is digitized from its inception in 1909 through 1972 when the yearbook ceased publication.
Search by entering a name or phrase into the search field in the online database. Results of the search will display the page in pdf form, which can be saved, printed, or emailed. As these publications were already previously published and released to the public and past issues housed in the archives are freely open, this database is also similarly available.
Enter your search term in the field and click "Search". To limit to a publication or to a specific date range, click on the options on the search bar. Once at the results page, you may toggle between results and page view. Click on any citation to view the required page; to return to the list, click on 'Show Previews' on the tool bar. You may also turn the page by clicking the forward/back arrows, or change from a citation list to an issue list.
You can access a growing number of Superior campus history photographs. Part of the University of Wisconsin collection, each campus sub-site is individually searchable. Go to UW Digital. This site is open and free on the WWW.
