The Special Collections section of JDH Library seeks to build a research collection of high quality by identifying, collecting, preserving, and providing access to materials relating to Northwestern Wisconsin as well as the communities surrounding Lake Superior and the upper Great Lakes. As an integral part of the teaching and research functions of the University of Wisconsin-Superior, Special Collections seeks to support research for students, faculty and staff as well as the broader community. Areas of concentration include: Local government; industry; sciences and the environment; Community and community groups; the University; and manuscript collections on transportation and Great Lakes maritime history; and the Beecroft collection on book publishing and propaganda. Monday - Friday 10:00 am - Noon; 1:00 pm - 3 pm. For visitors, check the campus location on the Superior map. We are located on the JDH Library 2nd floor Room 219, west side of the building (back). Visitors may wish to park at meters in Lots 7 or 10, or a short term/day parking permit may be purchased at the Campus Welcome Center. See map http://www.uwsuper.edu/parking/maps/meters.cfm.
The UW-Superior Special Collections and Area Research Center offers research and reference services to both on-site and distant patrons. If you cannot visit us in person, staff will make single copies of documents from paper or microforms. All requests must be submitted in writing either via email or conventional mail. The Special Collections and Area Research Center may charge a fee for research requests that require extensive time.
