"The Black skin is not a badge of shame, but rather a glorious symbol of national greatness."
-Marcus Garvey
Black Student Union (BSU)'s mission is "to bring knowledge to the campus and community about African/African American culture."
According to Terra Brister, Public Relations Director of BSU, "Black Student Union is just simply a wonderful group to meet new people and make friends, regardless of a person's race." This student organization welcomes everyone
to participate, regardless of age, sex, or race.
BSU meets once a month, and in the past has tended to meet in the Multicultural Center. However, this year they are mixing things up a little and utilizing the different meeting areas for student organizations. Keep an eye out for information about their next meeting.
Hosting many events during the school year, BSU likes to entertain all people on campus. Their biggest month to hold events is February, because it is Black History month. Some events they have coming up include a reenactment show of Zora Neale Huston's life on February 21st at 6:00pm in the Yellowjacket Union Atrium. Also their biggest event of the year is their Soul Food Dinner on
February 23rd at 5:00pm in the Yellowjacket Union Great Room. These events are fun for all and can also be educational.
If you are interested in joining BSU or have a question about an event don't hesitate to contact them. Liking their Facebook page, Black Student Union of UW-Superior or becoming friends with them on Facebook, BSU UWSuperior. Of course there is always the email option at BSU@uwsuper.edu.
