What is Orientation?
The Weekend of Welcome Orientation is a four-day program designed for
incoming students to participate in a variety of activities that will get you
geared up for your first year of college at UW-Superior. New students will
learn vital information needed for your first year of college and will also gain
some great insights on the UW-Superior campus and community. Students will have
the opportunity to meet current and new students and will have the chance to
meet future professors.
Am I required to attend the Weekend of Welcome?
If you are a traditional student, aged 18-24, then yes it is required for
you to attend the orientation program. If you are a non-traditional or transfer
student, there will be a condensed orientation for you to attend. This
orientation will occur on Friday, August 29th at 9:30am.
When does Weekend of Welcome start?
Weekend of Welcome check-in begins at 8am on Friday, August 29th.
Activities run throughout the entire weekend and end in the evening on Monday,
September 1st with a backyard BBQ and comedian.
How do I receive more information on the Weekend of Welcome?
All new students who will be attending UW-Superior in the fall of 2008 will
receive a Weekend of Welcome newsletter in the mail along with information
pertaining to their first few weeks of the fall semester. A registration form
will be in the mail for students to fill out and return.
How do I reserve a space in the Weekend of Welcome Orientation?
You can reserve your space by filling out the RSVP postcard attached to the
newsletter you will be receiving in the mail in July or by filling out the
online RSVP card.
Should my parents come with me to the Weekend of Welcome?
If you plan on moving into the Residence Halls, parents are more than
welcome to help you move-in. However, we ask that only the student attend the
Weekend of Welcome because the activities are specifically designed for new
students. There will be a parent session on Thursday, August 28th in
Crownhart Hall to answer any questions parents may have about Orientation.
Will I have to attend the entire Orientation or can I just come to a few
sessions?
We ask that all new students attend all of the Weekend of Welcome
activities. It would be very beneficial to attend all activities because each
activity is designed to answer questions about your first year of college and
during each activity, new students will have the opportunity to meet current and
other new students.
How much money does Weekend of Welcome cost?
The fee for Orientation is $95, but it is already included on your tuition.
This fee is charged to all new students as they enter the University.
Will I need to bring extra money to the Weekend of Welcome?
No, all costs are included in your fee. If you participate in the‘Exploring
the Twin Ports’, you may want to bring some spending money with for any
purchases you want to make.
What do we need to bring to Orientation?
Yourself! When you arrive for check-in, you will be given a booklet with
the schedule of activities that will be going on during the weekend. In order
to eat, you will need to bring your Student ID. If you misplaced your ID or did
not receive one during your SOAR session, you may receive one at the Rothwell
Student Center Information Desk. Replacement IDs cost $10.
