Creating a Blog Entry

  1. On the top Navigation bar of the Learn@UWSuperior home page there is a link labeled blog. Click on this link to be taken to the Blog tool. (See image)
  2. The first page you see will be My Blog Entry List. This will show the Blog features and any entries you have created. Click on the Add Entry button. (See image)
  3. Like the Email and Event tools, the Content box on the Add Entry page is expandable with Basic and Advanced tabs. (See image)  You can use the Preview Blog Entry to see what your entry will look like.  (See image)
  4. After you have typed your content, you will need to decide if it is a private or public entry. By checking the "Properties: Make entry public" box, you will make your blog available to everyone using the Learn@UWSuperior system. The default is set to private for all entries you create. If you also check the "Allow Comments" box, others will be able to leave comments on your entry. (See image) Click Save or Save and New when the entry has been completed.
  5. After your entry has been created it will display on your Entry List. The All Entries tab is the default display, it will show both public and private entries. (See image) The Public Entries tab will only show those entries you have checked the "Make entry public" box. (See image) The Private Entries tab will only show those you have left the "Make entry public" box unchecked for. (See image)

Using the Blog Watch

After adding selected students' or instructors' blogs from the Blog List, they will display on this page.  You can print or remove users from the watch by checking the box next to the name of the person and selecting either the Print or Remove icons.  (See image)

Using the Blog List

  1. On the My Blog Entry List, click on Blog List. (See image)  You will be taken to a page to search for students' and instructors' blogs and place them on your Blog Watch. (See image)
  2. If you know the names of students or instructors, use the Search For: box to find their blogs.  For example, if an instructor wants his or her class to create a blog entry and post a comment on someone else's, using the names on the course Classlist, you could search for those students.
  3. When you find the students' or instructors' blogs, check the box next to their names and click on the "Add selected users to Blog Watch" icon. (See image)

Note: Until a selected user has created a blog, they will not appear on your Blog Watch until they do.  For example, Student, Bill was the only student to have a blog so he is the only one to appear on the watch. (See image)

My Blog - Settings

There are two sections on the Settings page, General Settings and Blog Watch. (See image)

  1. In General Settings, you can: have a link to your user profile on your Blog; make entries public and allow comments be the default; and receive email notification when someone has added a comment to your blog. We suggest that you leave the entries private by default.
  2. In the Blog Watch section, you can specify when you want entries on your blog watch to be removed. By leaving it at 0 (zero), blogs you are watching will remain on this list until you manually remove them. If you are watching the blogs of students in a course, you might want to change 0 (zero) days to 100 days.
