WISC, the University of Wisconsin System's software cooperative, offers discounted pricing on many commonly used software products. Faculty and staff may purchase directly from WISC using a credit card. Login by using the 7 digit portion of your faculty or staff ID, then adding two zeros at the start of the number: 001234567.

UWS members often ask what kind of computer is best for their home use. The answer is: the kind of computer you are most comfortable using.  Many people find a desktop computer a great tool for organizing their home lives.  Desktop computers are also very affordable. Others find laptop computers convenient for their portability and the availability of wireless computer networks on their travels.

If you are planning to purchase a new computer, the following specifications are recommended by university technology staff:
