Thirteen veteran/military service students graduated this Spring and celebrated in the commencement activities. Those who serve in the Armed Forces are honored by wearing a red, white & blue distinguishing cord at the ceremony.

Jena Engelking from Superior, WI

What branch of the military were you in and how long?

Minnesota US Army National Guard/5 years

Major/minor?

Political Science - American Politics and Art - minor

Tell us about your family. Are you the oldest/middle/youngest?

I'm the youngest!

How did you hear about UW-Superior?

I grew up here.

Why did you choose UW-Superior?

I lived here and it was convenient.

Who was your roommate and how did you get along?

My parents. Best roommates EVER!

What was your favorite spot on-campus?

The gym

What extracurricular activities were you involved in?

Political Science Association (PSA)

What did you like about UW-Superior?

Smaller, more personal classes.

How was your transition to student at UW-Superior?

I was a student before so, it was fine.

What are some words of wisdom you could impart to our incoming veterans about your experience here at UW-Superior?

Get involved in everything that the campus has to offer- all of the societies and organizations. Study abroad, keep an open mind and do as much as possible.

How did you hear about UW-Superior?

Online

Why did you choose UW-Superior?

Close to home so I could commute. Flexible with my schedule. Small class sizes.

How was college different than being part of the military?

Less structure. You did not have to be 10 mins early to class. It was not as respectful as I am use to.

What was your favorite spot on-campus?

Swenson Hall

What extracurricular activities were you involved in?

Political Science Association (PSA)

What did you like about UW-Superior?

Friendships that are formed.

What are some words of wisdom you could impart to our incoming veterans about your experience here at UW-Superior?

Be active on campus and in the community.
