VFW Post 1091 lends a helping hand to UW-Superior student

UW-Superior veteran student, Joe Vondrachek, gets a lift to class

As part of their community outreach, the VFW Post 1091 contributes to charity, student scholarships, and individual veterans in need.

On Friday October 25th, Commander Gayle Carlson was on campus to purchase a parking pass for Joe Vondrachek, former U.S. Navy 1st Class Petty Officer, currently enrolled UW-Superior student majoring Psychology and minoring Communication Arts.

Joe finished his enlistment in 1963 and spent many years working before he returned to campus in 2008. As a self admitted life-long learner, he brings passion and commitment to his goal of getting his degree.

Often at the end of the day as the VNSC staff is leaving the Center, Joe is just arriving to enjoy the quiet environment for studying and finishing his homework. He chuckled when recently told he is the oldest student on campus this fall semester as well.

"Thank you, Commander Carlson for making Joe's commute to and from campus for his courses easier," says the staff at the VNSC.
