"UW-Superior should be praised for taking on the ambitious Campaign Superior. State resources are shrinking, and it is imperative that we maintain positive partnerships with friends and alumni. The campus is taking a big step forward in securing long-range support for the students. Our goal must always be the success of our students for the sake of Wisconsin and our global economy."

Former President

Why a Campaign?

Today's world requires the University of Wisconsin-Superior to expect more of its students and of itself. The University must continually improve upon the quality of the liberal arts education it provides. To make that improvement possible, the UW-Superior Foundation, Inc. began "Campaign Superior: Higher Expectations," a comprehensive campaign to raise $17.5 million by 2009.

The need for a comprehensive campaign is as simple as it is compelling. State education funding is shrinking. Yet, more than ever, the University must produce graduates who are technologically skilled, knowledgeable about our world, respectful of diverse cultures and capable of solving complex problems.

To meet these higher expectations, the University developed an integrated, student-centered plan to enhance programs and infrastructure. It focuses on providing quality faculty, modern facilities, and the challenging academic, athletic and social environment needed to prepare competent workers, entrepreneurs and citizens of the 21st century.

The key points of the plan, along with the fund-raising goals to support them:

--New Academic Building - $7 million to leverage state funding to construct a 160,000-square-foot building to house up-to-date, flexible classrooms, advanced laboratories and technology services.

--Active Learning and Teaching - $2 million to expand opportunities to gain practical experience, create a first-year program for students, and provide resources for faculty development.

--Renovation and Reconstruction of Key Buildings

Rothwell Student Center - $4 million to reconstruct the building and create an inviting, functional space for students.

Jim Dan Hill Library - $2 million to renovate the building to improve storage and delivery of information.

--The Superior Fund

Annual Giving - $1 million

Estate, Bequest and Planned Giving - $1.5 million in estate gifts and endowments to continue and expand vital student scholarships and services.

(For details about these goals, please visit our Campaign Priorities webpage.)

Since its founding in 1893, UW-Superior has used the liberal arts as a foundation for preparing leaders in education, business, science, government and the arts. We want UW-Superior to be the university of choice for top students; a university where they can be treated as individuals, work one-on-one with their professors, and find opportunities as undergraduates to learn through research projects, internships and performances.

The success of Campaign Superior will ensure that our University meets Wisconsin's higher expectations in the decades to come.
