UW-Superior Foundation receives $250,000 gift for library, student leadership program
(Oct. 13, 2006)
– The University of Wisconsin-Superior Foundation Inc. today announced a $250,000 gift to the university’s Campaign Superior: Higher Expectations.

The announcement was made at the foundation’s Donor Recognition Luncheon, which is held each year to honor the people and organizations that support UW-Superior through individual gifts and annual giving. Approximately 300 guests attended the luncheon in the university’s Rothwell Student Center.

The gift, from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous, will be used two ways: Part will be dedicated to the renovation of Jim Dan Hill Library in honor of the late Eugene "Pops" Lundholm, a former library director and one-time advisor of the campus chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. The other portion of the gift will be used for a leadership development program for students.

“I’d like to publicly express the gratitude of myself and our university community to our donor,” said Chancellor Julius Erlenbach. “Renovating Jim Dan Hill Library is an important part of Campaign Superior, and developing tomorrow’s leaders is critical to our mission as a liberal arts university. Our donor is creating a legacy that will benefit our students and our community for many years to come.”

Renovating the library will provide spaces for classes, presentations, computer workstations for group work and provide special space and environmental needs of library collections. Campaign Superior is providing $2 million in private funding for the project. An architect recently was hired for the project and design work is beginning.

Campaign Superior: Higher Expectations is a comprehensive plan to ensure UW-Superior provides the facilities, programs, and support needed for students to become active learners and engaged citizens for the 21st century.
