Position: Outreach Specialist
Provide leadership for the Distance Learning Center’s enrollment and recruitment planning. Direct the Center’s advising services. Coordinate the Individually Designed majors and minors. Provide and analyze data for continuous quality improvement in the Distance Learning Center. Perform other duties in Distance Learning and Continuing Education as assigned.
Reports to: Associate Dean for Continuing Education and Distance Learning
Salary: UWS offers a competitive salary and benefits package. This position has a starting salary of $40,125.
Start Date: July 1, 2008
Required
Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
Familiarity with principles of adult education.
Experience in advising or working with nontraditional or adult learners.
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Excellent skills with commonly used computer programs and communication tools.
Position will involve travel throughout Wisconsin and northern Minnesota. As such, valid driver’s license is required.
The successful candidate will be dynamic, energetic, creative, and engaging.
Commitment to the highest ethical standards and demonstrate effective leadership and teamwork skills.
Understanding of customer service and willingness to provide a supportive environment for students.
Interest in the use of technology in the classroom.
Assets: Highly qualified candidates will have a master’s degree, experience in teaching and learning at a distance in higher education, and experience advising adult students as well as providing student services.
Responsibilities:
Develop and manage the Distance Learning Center’s processes for enrollment and recruitment
Establish goals and objectives for an ongoing recruitment plan for the Distance Learning Center. The plan will articulate with statewide adult learning initiatives, the UW-Superior mission, and UW-Superior and Continuing Education strategic plans.
Manage the student recruitment program. Coordinate activities with program marketing. Schedule staff travel to events to meet with prospective and current students, and travel to these events.
Manage the student enrollment process. Coordinate activities with the Admissions, Registrar’s, and Financial Aid offices. Resolve issues relating to admission and transfer. Work collaboratively with these offices to improve service to students.
Direct the Distance Learning Center’s advising services
Oversee the assignment of advisors in the program. Coordinate advisor activities. Provide resources for continuous improvement of advising services.
Coordinate advisement activities with other campus advising offices.
Coordinate the Individually Designed majors and minors available through Distance Learning
Advise students developing and studying for Individually Designed majors and minors.
Collaborate with faculty and teaching staff to develop Individually Designed majors and minors, obtain approval for these degrees, and regularly assess student learning in these degrees.
Provide and analyze data for continuous quality improvement
Conduct programmatic research to assess information such as recruitment yield, course completion, student retention, and degree completion.
Analyze data and communicate to program administration for use in policy decisions.
Other Duties as Assigned
These may include: Supervision of employees; Teaching the program’s major planning and development course; Periodic teaching within a discipline area within the program, dependent on qualifications and academic department approval
