The Teams and Players:
~Teams consist of five players, one being the goalie
~Minimum of 3 players required to start the game
~Must have 3 players on the ice at all times
Timing and Scoring:
~Teams will have 5 minutes from scheduled start time to have at least 3 players on ice to avoid forfeit
~The game consists of two 20-minute halves (running time) with a 3 minute half-time
~Teams switch goals at the completion of the first half
~The last two minutes of the second half will be stop time in all dead ball situations (example: violations, penalties, injuries, and when the ball leaves the playing area)if the difference in score is two goals or less)
~In the case of a tie, there will be a 2 minute sudden death overtime
~If a tie still exists after 2 minutes, there will be a shoot out (3 players from each team will get a free shot from 5 yards in front of the goal line)
General Rules of Play:
~No checking
~Play begins with a face-off at center ice with players in their defensive zone. A face-off also occurs after a goal is scored and at the beginning of each half
~Kicking the ball is allowed, however, a goal does not count if the ball was kicked past the goal line
~Entire ball must cross the goal line for a goal to be counted
~Players may knock a ball down with their hand, but if this occurs, they must be the first to play it with their broom before it touches another team member. No hand passes are allowed
~High sticking (swinging stick above shoulder height) is not allowed.
~When the ball is knocked out of play, possession will go to the team that did NOT touch it last
Substitution:
~Players may substitute during live ball situations, however, the player leaving the ice must exit the playing area completely before the substitute is allowed to enter
Goalies:
~A goalie in possession of the ball has 5 seconds to get rid of it
~The goalie may not roll or throw the ball out of their own half of the ice. If this occurs, possession of the ball will be given to the opponent at center ice for an indirect shot
~A goalie leaving the goalie crease (a 4 foot radius making a half circle and extending from the point of the goal line perpendicular from the front of the goal) loses all goalie privileges
~Goalies will be wearing different color jerseys than all other players
Minor Violations (resulting in awarding the ball to the opponent at the spot of the infraction for a indirect shot):
~Hand passes
~Players other than goalie catching and freezing the ball
~Goalie completely out of the crease freezes the ball
~Goalie holding the ball from longer than 5 seconds (ball awarded to opponent at nearest face off spot)
~Goalie rolling/throwing the ball past center ice without it being touched by another player on either team (ball awarded at center ice)
Penalties:
~High Sticking (2 minutes)
~Checking (5 minutes)
~Sliding (2 minutes)
~Too many players on the ice (2 minutes)
