Desktop Support ( 25 % )
Hardware - Installs, configures, tunes, and troubleshoots desktop hardware. Resolves problems with peripherals and network connectivity.

Application Software - Supports desktop applications and web-based including word processing, spreadsheet, database, communications, statistical, and other application software.

Network Administration - Power Requirements ( 10 % )
Investigate UPS requirements for VoIP implementation. Develop small project statement including needs statement and equipment specifications.

Implement and maintain UPS equipment for switches & servers

Develop power requirements for server room.

Network Administration - Wire management ( 35 % )
Install and support cabling, interface cards, switches and routers to connect workstations to the network. Install, upgrade, and configure software for network hardware. Maintain an inventory of spare parts.

Provide long term planning for network growth and expansion. Attend meetings, investigate options, and provide cost estimates to both management and users. Advise electricians with technical specifications for the installation of cabling.

Act as the primary technical engineer in the planning, installation, and maintenance of the campus fiber-optic backbone, fiber video links, and intra-building data and ip phone wiring.

Create drawings and other specifications necessary for building wiring projects. Act as the primary point of contact for contractors working on wiring projects to monitor the progress and quality of work done. Document network facilities.

Work with departments and offices to develop surveilance camera systems

Network Administration Devices ( 10 % )
Switch Management - Spec/Design. Research technical specifications for new network hardware purchases. Provide advice to users and management on standards.

Monitor network performance and keep statistics that can be used in evaluating network bottlenecks. Track load levels and utilization trends to be used in capacity planning eg use MRTG graphs, network manager and access control server to monitor network

WAP – wireless access point deployment

Support campus Internet connection including router, T1 circuits. Troubleshoot problems with Internet connection

Network Security ( 5 % )
Provide support and consulting for campus video surveillance system.

Telephone Accounting ( 15 % )
Manage the campus telephone system which includes three telephone switches, local and long distance trunks, voice mail and a conferencing system. Supervision of Telephone support personnel

New projects include Unified Messaging, VoIP and possibly a Cellular One program for students. This will require knowledge of Cisco Switch QOS and planning for Call Manager.

Process telephone extension adds, moves and changes. Manage campus voice mail system

Manage and support Voice Mail System

User Services
Assist individual users with software installation and usage.

Assist users with hardware problems.
