SSC services for education crew and mock trial team work together to prepare UWS courtrooms

Over 150 collegiate mock trialers from Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Minnesota gathered for the annual Superior Durst Mock Trial Invitational.

It takes a village to prepare Swenson Hall rooms to be simulated courtrooms.  The SSC Services for Education crew showed up to help on November 30. Crew members Andrew Mattson and Samuel Kelly worked alongside mock trial team members Autumn Bass, Scott Holmes, Kenneth Benz and Maria Cuzzo, to get eight mock courtrooms set up on the second and third floors of Swenson Hall. Earlier in the day, other SSC crew members worked to prepare courtrooms and spaces as they became available including Sabrina Frank, Jeremy DeGraef and the regular Swenson Hall custodians. The custodians were stretched thin due to obligations to the Chancellor's Ball and other campus events.

"Every job is a self-portrait of the person who completes it," said Wade Joseph, supervisor of the SSC crew. "Autograph your work with excellence. The SSC works every day to provide the best possible support for the university, its students, faculty and staff."

“You cannot believe the tiny and uncomfortable campus buildings that we compete in during other invitationals around the region,” said Maria Cuzzo, head academic coach. “UW-Superior is, by far, one of the best facilities to host a tournament like this.”

Over 150 collegiate mock trialers from Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Minnesota gathered in Swenson Hall at UW Superior the weekend of November 30-December 2, 2018 for the annual Superior Durst Mock Trial Invitational. The Superior Durst is widely known throughout the Upper Midwest for their high quality courtroom and buildings during the tournament.

“We always appreciate the great support we receive from campus offices like the SSC Services Team, campus safety, parking, university staff and so many others to run a tournament like this,” said Cuzzo. “You cannot get something like this done over three days without everyone helping in some way and we are so grateful for the over 17 years of consistent support from our campus staff in this effort.”
