Health Minor

UW-Superior's Department of Health and Human Performance offers a broad range of programs that enable students to study physical education, health, health education and exercise science. Students use these programs to launch careers in education, business, sports, personal fitness, public health and other fields. The program also offers minors that are ideal complements to majors in education, health and business.

Physical Education - Teaching: Prepares students for teaching at a variety of grade and ability levels. Many teachers enhance their employment options by completing minors in coaching, health education or exceptional education (adapted physical education.)

Physical Education - Exercise Science: A broad-based program that provides the knowledge and skills needed to acquire a variety of jobs in areas such as adult fitness, industrial medicine, cardiac rehabilitation, pre-physical or occupational therapy or even chiropractic or medical schools. Students gain basic and advanced knowledge of the structure and function of the human body, and nutrition, health and clinical exercise physiology. Students who pursue this major must also complete a minor.

Physical Education - Community Health Promotion: Focuses on fitness, health and disease prevention. Students selecting this program often pursue public health careers, such as federal food inspector or sanitarian.

Let's talk Health and Human Performance

  • Programs are based in UW-Superior's 180,000-square-foot Marcovich Wellness Center. The building is open to all students and features state-of-the-art facilities, including a field house, gymnasium, fitness center, weight room, climbing wall, racquetball courts, swimming pool, exercise and physiology lab, computer lab, classrooms and a training room.
  • Faculty members work closely with students to identify career opportunities and select the proper academic options.
  • Physical Education students work jointly with UW-Superior's highly regarded Teacher Education Department. Students begin working with children early in their academic careers.
  • Students benefit from hands-on experience and personal attention from instructors.
  • There are numerous scholarship opportunities for teacher education and physical education students.
  • Gain practical experience with UW-Superior athletic teams as a player, assistant coach or athletic trainer.
  • Teacher Education students can enhance their career opportunities by adding a minor in health or coaching, or pursuing exceptional educational certification.
  • Participation as a player or instructor in the campus intramural and outdoor recreation program provides students with the opportunity for personal and professional growth.
  • UW-Superior offers a wide range of NCAA Division III athletic teams for men and women.
