Majors and minors overview

UW-Superior's Department of Health and Human Performance offers three physical education majors -- community health promotion, exercise science, and teaching physical education -- as well as a fitness management major.

Students use these programs to launch careers in education, business, sports, personal fitness, public health and other fields. The program also offers minors that are ideal complements to majors in education, health and business.

The physical education teaching major prepares students for teaching at a variety of grade and ability levels. Many teachers enhance their employment options by completing minors in coaching, early childhood, exceptional education (adapted physical education certification), health, health education or special education.

The mission of the Health and Human Performance Department is to provide students with knowledge, a positive attitude and lifelong skills in the seven dimensions of wellness:  physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, career, social and environmental (i.e. personal health), all supported by a liberal arts educational foundation.

Programs in the Health & Human Performance Department seek to serve all students in a caring educational environment toward liberal arts studies in physical education and health and/or pre-professional studies as physical education, health, early childhood, and special education teachers or non-teaching allied health professionals.
