Audition Information

The UW-Superior choral program is open to all students by audition.

Auditions are held during Weekend of Welcome and the first week of the fall semester in the Holden Fine Arts Center.
Students may sign up for an audition time at Dr. Robbins' office, Holden 1104. For information on spring auditions, please contact Dr. Robbins directly.

What to Expect

Choral auditions include the following:

  • Brief vocalizing - scales and other exercises to test range and vocal sound
  • Sing a brief, unaccompanied melody – America the Beautiful or a hymn tune – words provided
  • Tonal memory – sing back brief melodic passages
  • Rhythmic exercise - clap or sing rhythmic patterns in common meters
  • Sight reading - both rhythms and pitches – tailored to experience level (words, solfege, numbers - any system of your choice)

Auditions are brief (6-10 minutes). Voice majors should bring a prepared solo. Prior choral experience is helpful but not required.

Chamber Choir students are generally also enrolled in the A Cappella Choir.

For specific questions regarding the audition, please contact Dr. Robbins.
