Brass Day

The UW-Superior Brass Day is a new event intended for high school brass musicians and music directors. The event will include instrument specific masterclasses led by UW-Superior Brass Faculty*, a brass choir performance, and opportunities to work with a notable guest clinician. The cost is $10 and will include lunch for participants. The event will be held in Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center on Saturday, February 2, 2019.

Derek Bromme

Derek Bromme

Derek is a Duluth native and former graduate of UMD.  There he received a degree in trombone performance. He attended Indiana University after leaving Duluth, and obtained his Masters degree in trombone performance, under the instruction of Peter Ellefson. He then continued his studies at the University of Minnesota Twin-Cities where he obtained a doctorate in bass trombone performance. During that time he toured/recorded with Lorie Line as her solo trombonist. He is currently the instructor of low brass at UW-Superior and UMD.

Deborah Rausch

Deborah Rausch

Deborah, horn instructor at UW-Superior is an active free-lance musician and recitalist in the Duluth-Superior area. She most recently performed with the University Festival Orchestra, the North Shore Philharmonic, the Northern Lights Festival Orchestra, and the Itasca Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Rausch regularly substitutes for the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra and the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra. Ms. Rausch received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wittenberg University, and a M.S and Ph.D (ABD) in Geology from the University of Minnesota. Her horn coaches include Richard Chenoweth, David Moltz (in Germany), Jame Pospisil, and Herbert Winslow.

Earl Salemink


[NAMEONLY:ESALEMIN] has served as Principal Trumpet of the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra since 1989. He has performed locally with the DSSO’s Brass Quintet and Brass Ensemble, Lyric Opera of the North, Northland Opera Theater Experience, Duluth Festival Opera Orchestra, Big Time Jazz Band, and more. Mr. Salemink has performed as a member of the Tulsa Philharmonic in Tulsa, OK, Grand Teton Music Festival in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the Cedar Rapids Symphony in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the Tri-Cities Symphony in Davenport, Iowa, and Principal Trumpet with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Mr. Salemink received his aster’s degree in trumpet performance from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1983, his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City in 1982. He graduated high school from the Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan in 1977.
