Veteran Student Checklist
Complete Your FAFSA
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to determine eligibility for need-based federal, state and UW-Superior grants. It’s also required if you’re interested in federal loans and work-study. Complete this even if you are planning on using VA benefits.
Pay Your Enrollment Deposit*
Let us know you are coming and save your spot in the incoming class with your $100 deposit. This money is credited toward your first semester expenses and allows you to register for Summer Orientation Advisement and Registration (SOAR) and housing.

- Military Tuition Assistance
- Service Members need to speak with their Educational Services Officer (ESO) or counselor within their Military Service prior to enrolling in the institution. The Department of Defense (DoD) Tuition Assistance (TA) program provides financial assistance to Service members for voluntary off-duty education programs in support of professional and personal self-development goals. TA is available for courses that are offered in the classroom or by distance learning and are part of an approved academic degree or certificate program. The courses must be offered by schools that are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and are signatories to the current DoD Voluntary Education Partnership Memorandum of Understanding (DOD MOU).
- Each branch offers a tuition assistance program.
- UW-Superior financial aid officers provide information and application processes for Title IV student aid programs, scholarships, fellowships, grants, and loans to DoD TA recipients. Service members identified as eligible DoD TA recipients have their TA benefits applied to their UW-Superior account prior to the application of their Pell Grant funds.

- State Tuition Reimbursement (Guardsmen)
- Complete the UW-Superior Veteran/Military Family Enrollment Form – mail or email this form to the VNSC at UW Superior (vnsc@uwsuper.edu).
- While payment from the VA is pending, UW-Superior will not impose any penalty, including the assessment of late fees, the denial of access to classes, libraries, or UW-Superior facilities, or the requirement that a student borrow additional funds because of the student’s inability to meet their financial obligations to the institution due to the delayed disbursement of a payment to be provided by a federal VA program.
Meet With Your Advisor
Your Professional Advisor will let you know when and how to complete additional next steps military transfer credits, placement testing (if required), what classes to take to qualify for VA benefits, and potential scholarship opportunities.
Register for Orientation (Undergraduate Only)
The Veteran and Nontraditional Student Orientation Night is a 2 hour orientation session required for incoming undergraduate students. At the VNSC we understand that your time is valuable and we have condensed all the orientation information you will need into a 2 hour block. The orientation will cover Title IV information, all technology information you would need to access, and highlight resources for those who are nontraditional students. During this orientation you have time to ask questions to others students who are similar to you and gauge how their transition was into their academic career. This orientation is to make the transition into your time at UW-Superior easier and we have found in past years this orientation is well received and beneficial to those who have attended! Apply For Childcare Subsidy and Browse VNSC Benefits
UW-Superior can help with student childcare cost through the UW-Superior Childcare Subsidy Program.
What is the Subsidy Program?
The UW-Superior Child Care Subsidy Program is money granted to enrolled UW-Superior students with children in one of the childcare centers listed below. Your eligibility will be determined, and based on:
- Student status (enrolled in 6+ credits)
- Number and ages of children in care, and
- Your child must be enrolled in one of the Child Care Centers listed on the VNSC website; If your child care center is not listed you can still use the subsidy! Please contact the VNSC to add your center to our approved list. In home childcare is not eligible for the subsidy.
