Virtual SOAR: Summer Orientation Advisement and Registration

Fall 2021 students: please check back in November to view our 2021 SOAR dates.

Important Note: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, UW-Superior recently made the difficult decision to move all of our summer orientation programs to a virtual platform as we keep the safety of our students and employees as our primary focus. We look forward to welcoming you to campus over the summer via Zoom!

Virtual SOARs will be your opportunity to connect with faculty, staff and students, learn about important campus resources and organizations, and meet some of your fellow incoming classmates in a virtual platform! We know these are challenging times and this isn’t the way you probably envisioned your college orientation, but we will do our best to get you the information and connections you need to feel comfortable starting your college journey at UW-Superior this fall.

What to expect from Virtual SOAR:

Our Virtual SOAR events will include two parts. The first part is a live Zoom session that will run from approximately 9:00 am – 12:00 pm on your designated date. Following your Virtual SOAR event, you will receive an email inviting you to schedule a one-hour one-on-one virtual advising appointment (by Zoom or phone) with an academic advisor at UW-Superior to help you register for your fall classes. These appointments will take place in the two weeks after your virtual SOAR.

Dates & Registration:

The dates below indicate the available Virtual SOAR dates. Once you have a date in mind, click the Register for SOAR button to the right to find your date and complete your registration.

Upon registration, you will receive a link to the Zoom meeting for your designated SOAR date.

2020 SOAR Dates:

  • Monday, June 8 — at capacity and closed for registration
  • Friday, June 19 — at capacity and closed for registration
  • Monday, July 13 — at capacity and closed for registration
  • Monday, August 10

What to consider before selecting your Virtual SOAR date:

  • Make sure that you bring along parents or family members. Family members are encouraged to attend! We know they are a big part of this process and we want them to feel at ease. We will have certain content geared towards family members in attendance. We also know that students may have family members in multiple households. We encourage you to share the Zoom link with those family members so they can attend as well and just let us know if you have any questions.
  • Are placement exams required? Due to COVID-19, placement exams will not be required prior to SOAR. Most students will be placed into their math and writing courses based off of information on their high school transcript, college transcript(s), and/or standardized test scores. There may be optional placement exams later this summer that could be used on a case-by-case basis, but we will keep students posted if that may apply.
  • Dual enrollment, PSEO, Early College Credit, or other college level credits make a big difference for advisors. Make sure that you send an official transcript from your college before SOAR (your high school transcript doesn't count for college credit). If you still have classes in progress, email an unofficial copy of your college transcript to your admissions counselor in advance.
  • Attendance for the full program is required.
  • Is there anything I need to do in advance? Nope! We will keep you informed with further details along with mailing you a packet of information to help you feel prepared, but don’t hesitate to contact us in advance if you have any questions!
