Recipient of the Carl Vergamini Contributions to Yellowjacket Athletics Award
John Munson has brought the excitement of Yellowjacket hockey to thousands of listeners and readers. He is inducted into the Hall of Fame as recipient of the Carl Vergamini Award for Contributions to Yellowjacket Athletics, an award named for one of UW-Superior's outstanding and most popular coaches.
Mr. Munson used his broadcasting skills as the "Voice of Yellowjacket Hockey" from 1990 to 2004 on KUWS-FM. His knowledge of the game and his enthusiasm for the Yellowjacket hockey program brought insight and excitement to every broadcast. He also wrote a regular column for the website jackethockey.com and the Superior Daily Telegram newspaper, sharing his views on hockey with many more hockey fans.
As versatile as he is talented, over the years Mr. Munson has provided statistical support during games, acted as public address announcer, and even sung the National Anthem. He has also supported technical improvements to the Wessman Arena press box, made Yellowjacket Hockey broadcasts available world wide through the KUWS.FM website, and initiated the development of a sports broadcasting training program for students who broadcast or webcast other sports at UW-Superior and Superior High School.
