Maggie Dittburner

Maggie Dittburner of Hazel Green, Wis., was an outstanding athlete in basketball and volleyball during her years at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

In her four years on the Yellowjacket basketball team, Ms. Dittburner was named the team's Most Valuable Player four times and named All-Conference three times. In four years on the volleyball team, she earned All-Conference honors twice. She also participated in track for two years and on the men's swim team for one year.

Ms. Dittburner earned her bachelor of arts degree in 1980, graduating magna cum laude with a major in physical education and minors in health, athletic training and French. She earned a master's degree in educational administration from UW-Superior in 1982.

After leaving campus, Ms. Dittburner remained involved in athletics and was recognized for several notable achievements. In 1992 she earned the Galena-Strauss Hospital Women's Auxiliary Citizens Award for her impact on women and girls in the area of athletics. She was selected in 1999 to serve as head coach for the Illinois aquatics team at the World Summer Games for the Special Olympics. In 2001 she was named head coach of the Great Lakes delegation in showshoeing to the World Winter Games of the Special Olympics.
